Glamping 101: Luxury Camping Meets Outdoor Comfort
Glamping 101
When the everyday stress can get too overwhelming, escaping into nature may offer a restorative balm. However, this can be challenging if you're not much of a camper and "roughing it" isn't your style.
One alternative to enjoy nature mixed with a little luxury is glamping. From first timers to seasoned campers, our glamping tips will help set you up for success and help you make the most of your time outdoors.
What is Glamping? Understanding Luxury Camping
Glamping, or glamorous camping, is a form of luxury camping that offers a way to enjoy the spoils of nature without leaving behind the comforts of home.
First gaining attention in the early 2000s, this form of camping has seen a steady increase in popularity. In fact, the KOA's North American Glamping Report shows that between 2019-2021, the activity saw a 155% increase in popularity, which continues to increase year-after-year!
Glamping can look a bit different for everyone, but the unifying factor is that it leaves behind the rough edges of traditional camping and adds in elements of comfort, and even some luxury.
Glamping offers a range of options, including campsites, beach-side tents, or cabins, to name a few options. The options range but generally involve a level of comfort that's not associated with traditional camping. To get ready for your next trip, we're sharing some packing and glamping tips to get you prepared:
Essential Glamping Gear and Packing Tips
Besides some of the essentials we'll list below, a good way to prepare before your trip is to ask yourself what home comforts you absolutely will not go without. This will help you create your glamping packing list.
Luxury Bedding and Comfort Accessories
Before packing your bedding and comfort accessories, make sure you check with the glamping company, as they might provide some. Otherwise, make sure to pack the following:- - Cozy blankets or duvets
- - Pillows
- - Bed sheets
- - A sleeping bag, if that is your jam
- - A comfy camping chair
Glamping Outdoor Gear Essentials
If you're a seasoned camper, then you know that there are some items you just can't do without in the wilderness. While your campsite might be kitted out, there are still some camping items you might need to have on hand.
For outdoors adventures, make sure you pack your flashlight (don't forget those extra batteries!), lantern, charging essentials, a first aid kit, and some Scott® Rapid-Dissolving Toilet Paper, to name a few items. For nighttime adventures, bring heavy sweatshirts, extra socks, and sweatpants.
Portable Toilet Paper and Toiletries
One of the major perks of glamping is having an on-site bathroom, including a shower (some campsites might even have a hot tub or bath!). Make sure you pack bathroom essentials, such as travel-sized personal care items and toilet paper. While many glamping sites have toilet paper, be prepared by packing extra such as some Scott® Rapid-Dissolving Toilet Paper. Designed to dissolve quickly, it breaks up 10x faster than leading 1-ply premium toilet paper.
Glamping Tips for a Hassle-Free Experience
Now that you're ready for your luxury camping experience, use these glamping tips to give yourself an idyllic time in nature.
Location Selection
Location, location, location. You've heard it in real estate, but it's just as relevant when you're glamping. Thanks to the beauty of nature, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to glamping venues. When picking your location, consider:- - Whether you'd like to be in a forest, at the beach, or in a vineyard
- - Whether you'd like to stay in a yurt or tent, a treehouse, or an RV.
- - How far you want to travel from home -- consider your driving and flight options.
- - Consider the weather and time of year for your travels.
Toiletries for Glamping
Thankfully, even though you're in the wilderness, you don't have to go without toiletry essentials. Not unlike flying, when it comes to the toiletry part of your glamping essentials, you really do want to take the necessary items such as:
- - Toothbrush and toothpaste
- - Shampoo and conditioner
- - Soap and/or body wash
- - Sunscreen
- - Bug spray
- - A bathroom caddy to carry everything
- - Scott® Rapid-Dissolving Toilet Paper
- - Consider the weather and time of year for your travels.
Food, Water, and Cooking Equipment
Depending on the glampsite (e.g., an airstream or RV), you might have access to a small kitchen or a more traditional camping option of cooking over a fire.
When you're picking your campsite, it can be helpful to pick somewhere that's close to a store. You might not have access to a fridge where it's important to stock up on dry goods. Make sure they are sealed and stored away after use.
You'll want to make sure you have the following:
- - Ample amount of water
- - Coffee or tea
- - Breakfast foods such as a granola bars or bagels
- - Portable snacks
- - Easy-to-make lunch and dinner items
To make sure you don't miss out on your morning coffee, pack these essentials:
- - Lighters and matches
- - Firewood and charcoal
- - Camp kettle
- - Camping pots and pans
- - Cutlery
- - Containers for food storage
- - A cooler to keep food fresh
- - Cleaning supplies
